The section represents statistics related to financial investments, investments in non-financial assets and foreign investments.

Investments in non-financial assets include the following categories: fixed capital investments, intangible investments (objects of intellectual property: patents, author's rights, business reputation of organization, etc.), investments in the increase of inventories and other non-financial assets (expenditures on acquisition of land property, natural resources and other non-financial assets) expenditures of research and development, experimental and technological works. In the system of indicators, characterizing volume and structure of investments in non-financial assets the highest priority is given to investments in fixed capital which include expenditures on creation, reproduction and acquisition of fixed assets (new construction, extension, reconstruction and modernization of units, which lead to increase the original cost of objects and refers to the value added capital of organizations, purchase of buildings, structures, machines, equipment, tools and implements, as well as expenditures on the formation of main herd, perennial planting, etc.).

Distribution of fixed capital by kinds of economic activities is performed in accordance with OKVED classification taking into account the purposes of the fund allocation, i.e. the kind of activity where it will be used.

Data related to investments in fixed capital are given at actual prices, volume indices of fixed capital investments were estimated at constant prices.

Since 2001 fixed capital investments are recorded excepting value-added tax.

Financial investments - long and short- term investments of organizations in securities of other enterprises, bonds of state and local loans, in charter capital of other enterprises, established on the territory of the country or abroad as well as loans given to other organizations.

Foreign investments in the economy of Russia are regarded to all types of investments of the capital invested by foreign investors as well as by affiliated legal entities of the Russian Federation abroad in objects of entrepreneurial activity on the territory of Russia, with the aim of gaining profits. Investments are subdivided into direct, portfolio and others.

Direct investments refer to investments made by legal entities or individuals entirely owning the enterprise or controlling not less than 10 percent of shares of its charter capital.

Portfolio investments refer to the acquisition of shares, stocks, bonds, promissory notes and other securities. They make less than 10 percent of the total charter capital of the organization.

Investments unspecified as direct or portfolio are treated as others.

Information on foreign investments is given for those organisations which presented their statistical reports including investments in RUR converted into USD but excepting data on monetary-crediting regulating bodies, commercial and savings banks
