The section contains information related to structural changes in agricultural production, development of the private sector in rural areas, the state of the material-and-technical base of agriculture, plant-growing and animal husbandry, food resources and their use, etc. The data are given for the entire agriculture and by categories of agricultural producers. Basic information on forestry is also presented

For the category "agricultural organisations" presented are data on productive cooperatives, closed joint-stock companies, state enterprises, Co. Ltd, subsidiary farms of industrial, transport and scientific-research institutions and other organizations.

Households farms relate to private subsidiary and other plots in rural and urban settlements, individual citizen's farms with land plots at horticultural, garden and dacha associations of citizens.

Private household farm - a form of non-entrepreneurial activity to produce and process agricultural production carried out by personal labour of a citizen and members of his/her household at a land plot (provided in use or purchased) to meet their needs. Land for farming can consist of private and field holdings.

Horticultural, garden and dacha non-commercial associations of citizens - is non-commercial organisation established by citizens on voluntary basis to resolve common social and business tasks to maintain challenges of gardening and cottage industry.

The private (peasant) farm represents an union of citizens, bound by relative relation and (or) by an attribute, having property in common ownership and performing jointly production or other business activity (production, processing, storage, transportation and sale of agricultural produce) on the basis of their personal participation.

Individual entrepreneur of agricultural activity - a citizen (physical person), engaged in entrepreneurship and not registered as a legal entity but registered in accordance with the Citizen Code of the Russian Federation, and declared in the Certificate of state registration kinds of his/her activities related to agricultural activities according to the All-Russia classification of kinds of economic activity (OKVED).

Production of agriculture is the sum of plant-growing and animal husbandry outputs of all agricultural producers including household farms of private sector (household farms, private peasant farms and individual entrepreneurs) in value terms at actual current prices.

Starting from 2000 the volume of agricultural production is compiled according to the structure of the All-Russia classification of kinds of economic activity.

Production of plant-growing includes the cost of raw products from the harvest gathered in the report year: grain, production of technical crops (seeds of oil crops, production of flax and hemp, sugar beets, tobacco and home-grown brands, etc.), potatoes, vegetables and berries, fodder crops (fodder roots, annual and perennial grasses grown for hay, green pulp and silage), seeds and planting materials for agricultural crops and perennial plantations, the cost of growing young perennial plantations and the change in the cost of non-complete production in plant growing from the beginning (planting and growing up to ripening of agricultural crops and perennial plantations ) to the end of the year.

Production of animal husbandry includes the value of raw products of breeding and business use of agricultural animals and poultry (milk, wool, eggs, etc.), the cost of live-stock and poultry sold, change in the cost of young animals and live-stock during a year, the value of bee-keeping, production of water reptiles and frogs breeding in reservoirs, earthworm (California), etc

To compile index of agricultural production the indicator of the production volume at constant prices is used.

Agricultural production index - the relative indicator characterizing changes in the mass of plant growing and animal products produced in comparable periods.

Agricultural land is land systematically used for agricultural production. Agricultural land includes arable land, deposit, perennial plantations, hayfields and pastures

Arable land - agricultural field, systematically processed and used for sowing of agricultural crops including perennial grasslands and bare fallow.

Cultivated area - a part of arable land in agricultural crops planted for harvest.

Gross harvest of agricultural crops includes the volume of harvested produce from main, repeated and intra-row sowings of agricultural organisations, private peasant farms, individual entrepreneurs and household farms.

Livestock inventory - livestock covering all age groups of a respective kind of livestock.

Production of livestock and poultry for slaughter is the indicator characterising the result of use of livestock and poultry for meat slaughter Total volume of production of livestock and poultry for slaughter reflects in recalculation in slaughter weight and includes both livestock and poultry sold for slaughter and also slaughtered in agricultural organisations, private (peasant) farms, individual entrepreneurs and household farms.

Milk production is characterised by actually produced milk of cows, goats and horses irrespective of the fact whether it was sold or used in the farm for feeding calves or piglets. Milk sucked by calves being kept sucking is not included into the production and is not recorded while estimating average milk yield per a cow.

Wool production includes all volume of sheep and goat wool and goat down actually shorn. Excluded is the wool produced while sheep's skin undergoes industrial processing into leather. The weight of the wool is shown in physical terms immediately following the shearing process (i.e. the weight of non-washed wool).

Eggs production includes all eggs collected during the year from all types of poultry including eggs used for poultry reproduction (incubation, etc.).

To determine the average annual yield of milk per cow in agricultural organisations, the production of milk from the cows of the milk herd is divided by their average number of heads.

Information concerning food resources and their use is compiled on the basis of data of the federal state statistical observation, data of household surveys, customs statistics and other data characterising food resources formation and their use during the calendar year.

Data on agricultural production volume, land in crops and и gross agricultural crop harvested, the yield of potato, vegetables, livestock inventory and livestock products production, food resources for 2006-2007 were revised with due regard for the results of the All-Russia Agricultural Census conducted in 2006.

Reforestation - measures undertaken for the regeneration of forest on cut over land, burnt spots, wasteland, glades and other places previously being under forest. Reforestation includes planting and seeding of forest and assistance for forest natural rehabilitation.
