This section represents data related to to public (municipal) and non-public education establishments: general education schools, primary schools, secondary vocational and higher education.

From 2011 statistical data on general educational institutions and primary vocational education institutions is presented according to data from Minobrnauki of Russia (the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation).

According to the Federal Law "On education" of 10.07.92 № 3266-1 the following general education qualifications are established: basic general education (persons, with diploma of graduation from the 9th grade of general educational institution), secondary (complete) general education (persons, with diploma of graduation from 11(12th) grade).

General educational institutions include public (municipal) and non-public institutions carrying out the following courses of general education: educational institutions for children under scholl age or primary school age; general educational institutions and boarding-schools (primary, basic, secondary of profound study of selected subjects, gymnasiums and lyceums); cadet institutions, general education summer boarding-schools, special (correctional) education establishments and classes for pupils with limited health capacities, special education establishments for pupils with disabilities and deviations in mental development, health improving education establishments of sanatory type for pupils in need of continuous care, education establishments for children in need of psycho-pedagogical and medico-social assistance, evening (shift-time) general educational institutions.

Primary vocational education can be received in primary vocational, secondary vocational and higher educational institutions carrying out courses of primary vocational institutions; secondary vocational education - in seconday vocational and higher educational institutions carrying out courses of secondary vocational education; higher education - in educational institutions carrying out courses of higher education.

Total number of students of secondary vocational and higher educational institutions does't include foreign stcitizens studying in the Russian Federation (excluding citizens of the CIS, Baltic countries and Georgia, admitted under general conditions).

For 2005-2009 the following indicators: number of students at primary vocational educational institutions per 10000 population; number of students in secondary vocational and higher educational institutions per 10000 population; number of students at public and municipal secondary vocational and higher educational institutions per 10000 population are estimated using population size without account to the 2010 Russia population census results, for 2010 - with account to results of the 2010 Russia population census, acquired in line with terms established in resolution of the Government of the Russian Federation of November 12, 2010 № 896 "On summing up of results of the 2010 Russia population census".

After getting the estimation of population size for 2003-2010 with account to final results of the 2010 Russia population census data on the indicator will be recalculated and published in official Federal State Statistics Service publications in 2012.
