   The fourth session of the ESCAP Committee on Statistics took place at the United Nations Conference Centre, Bangkok, on March 25-27, 2015.

The Committee was attended by delegates from 37 countries and 19 international organizations. The Russian delegation was led by the Head of Rosstat A. Surinov, which was elected the Vice-Chairman of the Committee.

The Russian delegation, during discussion of the terms of reference, recommended that the Secretariat shall focus on successful patterns of practical use of obtained statistical information. Such data were considered to be expedient for submission to the UN Statistical Commission as a regional contribution to the overall efforts of ESCAP in the collection and use of statistics.

Further strategic guidelines, provided for the Committee’s impending work were decided to be the completion of the formation of statistical indicators for the post-2015 development agenda with respect of the Sustainable Development Goals and associated targets. Also under consideration were recommendations in such areas as governments’ efforts in the sphere of improving the statistics quality, the strategic priorities of regional action plans, the exchange and transfer of data in the new information environment, maintaining national and regional priorities in the framework of regional approaches to the modernization of the statistical information systems in the region.
